New Care Givers
If you do not have at least six months prior experience in a regulated child-care center
(or documentation to prove that you have the equivalent in child-care training),
you must have eight clock hours of "pre-service training" before you can begin work.
Also, if you plan on providing care for children younger than 24 months,
this pre-service training must include at least one hour of training on "the shaken baby syndrome,"
Licensed Child-Care Centers
Directors of licensed child-care centers must have 20
clock hours of annual training. Ten (10 hrs) of these required hours
may be obtained from self-instructional materials (such as our online courses)
Care-givers at a child-care center must have 15 clock hours of annual
training. Half of the required hours (7.5 hrs) may be obtained from self-instructional
materials.
Registered Child-Care Homes
If you are the primary care-giver for children kept in
your home, you must have 20 clock hours of training each
year. Sixteen (16) of those hours may be obtained through self-instructional
materials.
Assistant or substitute care-givers in a home must have 15 clock
hours of annual training. Twelve (12) of these hours may be received through
completion of a self-instructional course.
